Cadmium; cadmium oxide; pentadecafluorooctanoic acid (PFOA); ammonium pentadecafluorooctanoate (APFO); dipentyl phthalate (DPP); and 4-nonylphenol ethoxylates, are the latest additions to the EU Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) List. The complete list can be viewed here: http://echa.europa.eu/candidate-list-tableOf particular concern to many companies are the NPE’s (nonylphenol ethoxylates). These have been banned at >0.1% wt. since 2004 for consumer uses, but were given exemptions for closed-system industrial processes. The addition to the SVHC list will practically end the use of any NPE’s in the EU. Branched-chain alcohol ethoxylates will most likely be the chosen replacement for NPE’s.
